ERP Process Optimisation

A capable ERP that the business had quietly stopped using for its most important process.

Sector
Manufacturing
Scope
Fit-gap analysis · Configuration clean-up · Workflow redesign
01Challenge

The ERP had been implemented years earlier and had accumulated customisations from several different hands. Planning had migrated back into spreadsheets — not because the ERP lacked the capability, but because the configured workflow no longer matched how production actually scheduled work. The system had become a place where results were recorded after the fact rather than where work was managed.

02Approach

We resisted the instinct to recommend a replacement. A fit-gap analysis showed the platform could support the required process; the gap was configuration and workflow, not capability. We documented how planning genuinely worked, mapped it against standard functionality, and reduced the customisation surface rather than adding to it.

03Solution

What we built.

  • 01Fit-gap analysis establishing that the platform, not the process, was being underused
  • 02Redundant and conflicting customisations removed, restoring a supportable upgrade path
  • 03Planning workflow reconfigured around how production actually schedules
  • 04Spreadsheet-based planning steps brought back into the system
  • 05Key users retrained on the reconfigured process, with documentation
04Outcome
  • Planning moved back into the ERP, so the system reflects live work rather than history
  • A supportable upgrade path was restored by reducing custom code
  • Production and finance work from the same live data
  • No replacement programme was required — the existing investment was recovered
